Individual subscribers and institutions with electronic access can view issues of American Literature online. If you have not signed up, review the first-time access instructions.

American Literature has been regarded since its inception as the preeminent periodical in its field. Each issue contains articles covering the works of several American authors—from colonial to contemporary—as well as an extensive book review section; a “Brief Mention” section offering citations of new editions and reprints, collections, anthologies, and other professional books; and an “Announcements” section that keeps readers up-to-date on prizes, competitions, conferences, grants, and publishing opportunities.

Membership in the American Literature Section of the Modern Language Association includes the following: a one-year subscription to American Literature, a copy of the annual hardbound American Literary Scholarship, electronic access to current and back volumes of American Literature through a combination of HighWire Press and JSTOR, as well as electronic access to American Literary Scholarship, beginning with the 1998 edition, through
HighWire Press.
