The robots are here. And we need to learn how to get along. AI, data analytics, and risk assessments are increasingly entwined with the criminal justice process, becoming more important with each passing month. To be effective now and into the future, advocates, jurists, probation officers, other criminal justice professionals, and policymakers will need to understand these tools, how they are used, and how they might be regulated and governed. This double issue of the Federal Sentencing Reporter was developed to help further that understanding.
