Political Imprisonment and Confinement

Contributors to this special issue examine how governments and other power structures use criminalization and incarceration to enforce policy and to silence critics and those who threaten the government’s control. The issue includes studies addressing Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas, and features prisoners’ correspondence, photography from Argentina, and an ex-prisoners’ reunion in post-Apartheid South Africa.
